Summer Camps

We host exciting Summer Camps for people with special needs at our Whispering Pines Conference & Retreat Center, situated on 46 acres of wilderness in the Sierras, and located in Mi Wuk Village about 15 miles east of the 49er Gold Rush town of Sonora.

Every week is carefully designed to meet the specific needs of persons with disabilities.

Camp Activities

Each Camp is designed to match the abilities of our guests in a safe environment, and to provide a camping experience that allows them to discover and enjoy new things within the scope of their abilities and interests.

We promote physical wellness, foster social interaction, and teach wholesome values. Our guests enjoy building friendships with our caring Staff and other campers. Together, they experience indoor and outdoor activities that encourage and engage them.

Group activities include archery, ping-pong, basketball, horseshoes, Special Olympic-style and fun water games, whiffleball, foosball, volleyball, Frisbee toss, shuffle board, hiking, and more!

Adaptive activities focus on the individual's unique abilities and skill sets.

Taking nature hikes, enjoying fun picnics, roasting marshmallows, and singing around the campfire are long-standing favorites.

Other activities include puppets, role playing with costumes, skits, crafts, drawing, painting, chalk talks, camp visits by forest rangers and fire trucks, fun photo opps sitting on Harleys, and more!

Travel Camps

Two exciting Travel Camps are available for women (Camp #1) and men (Camp #2) who have the abilities to participate. Space is limited.

Our Travel Camp guests sleep outside in tents with their counselors, and enjoy fun outings every day. They wake up and start their day with a hearty breakfast before leaving in our van on that day's outing. Later, they return to The Pines, eat dinner, and enjoy the evening program activities with our other guests at Camp.

Outings may include Yosemite Park, Historic Columbia Park, Calaveras Big Trees, Trout Farm, California Caverns, Jamestown Train Ride, Dream Mountain Horseback Center, and Pinecrest Lake Day.

Activities may include swimming, hiking, fishing, boating, pontoon boat driving, miniature golfing, horse petting, gold panning, eating out, picnics, and more!
