Welcome
From the Executive Director,
Dave Shackelford
An old Chinese proverb says, “He who rides a tiger hesitates to dismount.”
I haven’t talked with the one who
deftly condensed his great wisdom, but I’d like to translate
for him:
“I’m strapped to the back of something that’s bigger and faster than me and if I jump off, I’ll probably never catch it again, or it may overwhelm me.”
At times the stuff of
life - our circumstances, emotions and relationships - can cause us to feel like we're
riding on the back of that tiger! We feel strapped and trapped, and we
think, "I've got to hang on tight and ride it out."
Our disabled friends and their
families struggle with the stuff of life and often they do so in the face of
incredibly difficult circumstances.
Daily and courageously,
they ride that
tiger!
They rise above their
disabilities and limitations like Olympic champions. They hurdle obstacles
that look insurmountable. They tackle and beat the odds. Sadly, they
often get strange
looks and hear unkind words. Sometimes they feel lonely, neglected and rejected.
And yet they ride on like troopers.
That’s why the ministry of Christian Berets is so strategic. We’re building bridges into the lives of disabled people
so that we can love and care for them in the Name of Jesus.
I invite you check out our website. You’ll find our mission is straightforward and singular, and our vision is credible and clear.
Welcome to our website and enjoy your visit!
Wholeheartedly,
Dave Shackelford
